Come and get your hands dirty and creative at this FREE event with activities for all!
The Marks Gate Arts Festival features local creative Marks Gate talent joining forces with artist Sadia Ur-Rehman in a ‘Mad Hatter’ themed event. We’d love it if you dressed up!
The event kicks off with a free ‘street dance’ workshop with Marks Gate very own choreographer and dance extraordinaire, Game. Join him at 12pm and show off your moves Marks Gate! The event will also host the following:
‘Make & Decorate a Candle’ with Cassandra’s Candles
Make and decorate your very own candle to take home with local resident Cassandra Frederick of Cassandra’s Candles.
‘Cupcake Decorating’ with Surena’s Cupcakes
Decorate a delicious cupcake with your own design to take home with local resident Surena Stevens of Surena’s Cupcakes.
‘Loom Bands’ with Tenayah Frederick
Learn how to make a ‘loom band’ with loom band expert Tenayah Frederick. These loom bands can be turned into rings, bracelets & necklaces.
On Street Art with Sustrans
Join Sustrans as they start to reimagine streets and spaces in Marks Gate with temporary pavement paint and chalk! Fun for all the family and a chance to get involved with an exciting new project in the area.
Cycle a Smoothie with Sustrans
Use pedal power to produce your own delicious smoothie! Choose your ingredients, jump on the special smoothie bike and get riding to make yourself a healthy and tasty drink!
‘Framing Marks Gate’ Exhibition and Film Screening
‘Framing Marks Gate’ tells the stories of local Marks Gate residents’ stories through the medium of photography and film. The photographs taken in our pop-up photo studio alongside images of the project will be exhibited during the festival.
A series of 6 short films telling the stories of a selected number of residents will also be screened during the event.
Sadia’s Mad Hatters Tea Party
‘Tumble down the rabbit hole’ and join artist Sadia Ur-Rehman and her tea hosts for a unique ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’, make and design your own hat to wear during the event, come in fancy dress!
