Introducing the Khans

As part of the Framing Marks Gate series we photographed and interviewed a series of local residents and key workers who have played an interesting role on Marks Gate. Meet Zenab Khan and her wonderful family. Zenab is a very active Marks resident and mum, busy getting involved in the local Marks Gate community and the growing Muslim community on the estate.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

We live on Marks Gate, I access the Children’s Centre using its Mother & Toddler groups and popping into the centre often to chat with the friendly staff. I have also joined the Muslim community group known as the ‘Marks Gate sisters’.

Why are you on Marks Gate?

We have a house here, my children also attend school on Marks Gate.

How long have you known Marks Gate?

8 years

What are your experiences of Marks Gate?

I have had a positive experience here. its an area which has many facilities to offer it’s residents from exercise classes to short courses for both parents and children. It feels like home.

Tell us a special memory that you have of Marks Gate?

My most special memory would be learning to cycle in the borough with the free cycling scheme, I absolutely loved it and acquired a great and very useful skill!
