Introducing Brian & Pat Gullefar
As part of the Framing Marks Gate series we photographed and interviewed a series of local residents and key workers who have played an interesting role on Marks Gate. Meet Brian and Pat Gullefar, Marks Gate residents who have lived on the estate for 52 years! The couple share their experiences of the area with us.
What’s your name and age?
Brian Gullefar, 73
Pat Gullefar, 73
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Brian: I love darts! Over the years I had a variety of practical jobs including landscape gardening.
Pat: I’m interested in arts and crafts, and get involved in creative activities locally where I can. I love knitting, especially animals!
We’ve been married for 55 years.
Why are you on Marks Gate?
We moved to Marks Gate 52 years ago.
How long have you known Marks Gate?
What are your experiences of Marks Gate?
There seemed to be more for young people to do years ago. Today we find that there seem to be more of them out on the streets not doing very much, they need more activities to get involved in.
Through the years you get to know people of our age within the community, make friends and acquaintances, and because of this we feel like we are part of this community.
Tell us a special memory that you have of Marks Gate.
Pat: Tuesdays at the Marks Gate Community Centre, I come to ‘Knit and Natter’ in the morning then Brian joins me in the afternoon for ‘Tea-Time Tuesday’ with artist Sadia. It’s our highlight of the week!
